Eighteen Boyle Heights teenagers were honored last week by The Variety Boys & Girls Club with scholarships. ABC 7 reports that the ceremony also honored two alumni who went on to produce movies including Boyle Heights native Moctesuma Esparza who contributed to making the “Selena” film.
The Club awarded teens with scholarships towards their college education. Eli Demitrio Gramajo, named “Youth of the Year,” received $15,000 and has been accepted to Princeton University. The Boys & Girls Clubs of America has been honoring teens with this award since 1947.
