Hundreds of mourners are expected to attend the funeral of famed restaurateur Manuel Rojas next week. The co-owner of El Tepeyac restaurant in Boyle Heights lost his battle with cancer on Feb. 12, 2013. He was 79.

A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at Assumption Church, located across the street from the restaurant (entrance on Evergreen Ave). The funeral Mass will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Calvary Chapel in Montebello followed by the burial at Calvary Cemetery in East Los Angeles.

Rojas’ daughter, Elena Rojas, says the community has been very supportive during the family’s loss and welcomes the public to attend the services.

“It’s been beautiful. We appreciate everyone who has left comments of love and support,” said Elena. “There’s no words…All the love is awesome.”

Rojas is survived by a sister and a brother, nine children, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 9 a.m.

    I grew up with El Tepeyac, and Manuel. We will miss you Manuel and your friendly smile..a Brandy toast to you up to heaven. Our condolences to the Rojas family. God Bless and Rest in Peace.

    My deepest condolance to the entire Rojas family. I just heard about Mr.Rojas passing tonight on the 11:oopm news. We have been going to the resturant for the past 30 years. I have not been watching much t.v. latly we have had three deaths in my husbands family this month. His Uncle on Feb 2, His Father Feb.3, and His Brother Feb.22. We share the pain of loss of a loved one. Knowing that our loved ones are in good company with Mr.Rojas. May our lord take care of them all.

    Grew up around the corner, amazing to be part of Boyle Heights and get to know Manuel on a personal level. He was always smiling and charming. We are very fortunate to have had him in our community….we will miss you and keep your business booming….Prayers to the Rojas family

    My condolance to the familia rojas.I am so sadden for your lose i remember going to the tepeyac and standing in a great line just so my coffee could get spiked by manuels favorite liquor.Me and my husband have 29 years enjoying the great food and warm welcome.May his soul rest in peace<3

    MY CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY. I’VE KNOWN MANUEL FOR 35 YEARS. MANUEL WAS AN AWESOME MAN WHO LOVED EVERYONE AND EVERYONE LOVED HIM. MANUEL LIT UP THE ROOM WHEN HE WALKED IN. MANUEL CARED ABOUT EVERYONE. I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY FIRST CHILD MANUEL MADE SURE THAT I WAS TAKING CARE OF MYSELF HE SAID HAVING KIDS IS A BLESSING. HE SAID HIJA I WILL BE THERE ANYTIME YOU NEED ANYTHING CALL ME OR JUST TO TALK. MANUEL SAID I WILL ALWAYS HAVE A HOLLENBECK WAITING FOR YOU. HE IS NOW IN HEAVEN COOKING FOR LOVED ONES AND FRIENDS THAT HAVE PASSED ON BEFORE HIM. MANUEL WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU. R.I.P. DIANA GUTIERREZ

  8. My father Fernando Estrada Ballin worked for A.P Lopez, and he sold property for manuel. They new each other for my years. I love seeing manuel, my father passed also june5, 2010, my deepest condolences to all his family. He was well respected , God Bless you all, he will always be everyone hearts.
